DROUGHT REVEALS AMAZING CARVINGS ON RIVERBED IN INDIA

In the Karnataka State of India, exceptionally dry weather has caused the Sahasralinga riverbed to become exposed. This exposed riverbed has revealed thousands of rock carvings of male and female sexual symbols, linga and yoni, and of Nandani, Shiva’s bull mount.

Each year, on Shiva’s feast day, thousands of worshipers visit this site. It was, however, not known that carvings rested below the water.

During Shivratri, thousands of pilgrims visit this place [in Karnataka] and offer pujas, a perfect time when the water level in the river is low and most of the Lingas are visible with their bases called Yonis,” Sott.net writes.

“Each Linga also has an individual bull carved facing towards them. No one really knows when or who carved these Lingas but it is speculated that the King of Sirsi, Sadashivaraya, may have ordered their construction during his reign from 1678 to 1718.”

“According to Puranas, once the other two of the triads of Hindu Gods, Brahma and Vishnu were fighting over each other’s prowess,” reads Mahashivaratri.org. “Horrified at the intensity of the battle, the other gods asked Shiva to intervene.

To make them realize the futility of their fight, Lord Shiva assumed the form of a flaming Linga in between Brahma and Vishnu and challenged both of them by asking them to measure the gigantic Linga (phallic symbol of Lord Shiva).”

And now today, the lingam of Shiva is celebrated in India. The discovery of these stone carvings of Shiva’s lingam is quite the find.
